Astafyev (Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation) AbstractOf all psychological features characterizing an ethnic group, mental make-up, which includes national character, national temperament and peculiarities of personality orientation, is the most static one. This paper presents a typological characteristics of temperament traits and studies how they are manifested in 17–22-year-old students (387 respondents) belonging to the Caucasian and the Slavic ethnic groups. Using the Questionnaire of Formal-Dynamic Properties of Individuality developed by V.M. Rusalov, we showed that students of Caucasian ethnicities from two Krasnoyarsk universities are more emotional and somewhat less active in the psychomotor, communicative, and intellectual spheres compared to the Slavic group. Among Caucasian girls there are significantly more individuals with the highly emotional highly active and highly emotional medium-active types of temperament (Rusalov’s classification). Almost half of the Caucasian boys and girls display the traits of the medium-emotional medium-active type of temperament. In contrast, only one in three Slavic respondents demonstrate this type of temperament. Thus, the results confirm the recent suggestions that temperament is linked with individual differences in behavioural response and reactivity of the body’s physiological systems.Keywordstemperament traits of Caucasian ethnicities, temperament structure of Caucasian ethnicities, students of Caucasian ethnic groupReferences
